Technical copywriter

What we need
We’re looking for a Technical Copywriter to produce clear, accurate content for the Apify platform. You’ll focus on user-facing content - READMEs, tutorials, and microcopy. We want everything to be straightforward and helpful for both technical and non-technical users.
When we say technical writer, we're not looking for someone to create dry docs or doorstopper instruction manuals. We want a writer who can bring technical content to life in as few words as possible. You'll take what could be a bland description of how a tool works and make it engaging, all while making sure that it's technically accurate and clear.
What you’ll be doing
- You’ll be part of the marketing team, reporting to the Head of Content, and working closely with the rest of the Content Team, Product Marketing Managers (PMMs), and other Apify teams, including Store, Acquisition, and more.
- Work with Apify Store Product Managers to craft and refine high-quality READMEs for Apify Actors. You'll make them developer-friendly but also approachable for less technical users.
- Work closely with PMMs to create engaging copy for landing pages, product pages, ad campaigns, and other promotional materials, so the messaging connects with users and aligns with business goals.
- Create and edit meta titles, meta descriptions, and other copy across the Apify platform to improve user experience and search engine visibility.
- Produce blog and other content to help promote awareness and understanding of the tools that you work on.
Who are we looking for?
- You have 5+ years of experience in technical writing or technical copywriting, but with a marketing slant. You’ve worked across a variety of projects and you have a portfolio that demonstrates your skills. Be ready to show us what you did and why it worked.
- Experience in a technical environment or a technical background is a big plus. You’ll be expected to use platforms like GitHub and need to know how to communicate effectively with a developers and a developer audience.
- Fluent English (C2 level) that translates into clear, concise writing with no typos or clunky phrasing.
- We're very comfortable with using AI to assist with our work, but we don't want a writer who relies on it for everything. Note that we're also experts at identifying LLM-generated copy.
What we expect from you in the first six months:
Month 1:
- You’ll receive orientation and training to help you learn Apify culture, values, and how the various teams work together at Apify.
- Learn about our tools, processes and workflows to understand where you fit in. We use Notion, Slack, Trello, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, and a wide range of other tools. Experience with any of these will help you fit in quickly.
- Take on small, assigned tasks, with guidance, to get used to our style, tone, and audience.
Months 2-3:
- Start taking ownership of small projects, but with lots of support from experienced team members.
- Collaborate with PMMs and other teams to create compelling copy for READMEs, microcopy, and landing pages.
- Become familiar with our SEO guidelines and able to apply and evaluate them independently when creating content.
- Complete a technical onboarding demo to become familiar with the Apify platform and Apify Actors.
Month 4 and beyond:
- Take full ownership of selected projects and tasks. You’ll handle planning, progress, and completion.
- Own and continuously improve the Actor marketing playbook.
- Work with PMMs and other teams to standardize templates for READMEs and landing pages, gradually taking over ownership of all product marketing copy.
- Help establish workflows to make it easier for everyone to get copy from first draft to publication.
By following this timeline, you'll gradually become a key member of the Content Team and be ready to take on even more responsibility by the end of your first year!
