Engineering Manager (Delivery)

We are looking for experienced engineering managers who will help us to scale our expanding organization and grow with us on our journey to make the web more programmable.

You will work alongside our Head of Delivery  Václav Růt, Head of Delivery Engineering  Lukáš Křivka, Head of Tooling (the master of Crawlee)  Martin Adámek, and a talented team of senior and junior engineers to help improve our delivery excellence.

How the Delivery Engineering team works:

• We are creating and maintaining Actors which are cloud programs usually written in JavaScript running on top of the Apify platform
• The Actors we build are web scraping & automation projects for Apify's enterprise customers and publicly available scrapers in Apify Store. We also nurture technical expertise and provide technical guidance to self-service power users
• We are 15 engineers, mostly full-time and in hybrid mode. Some people are in the office, some come once a few weeks and some are fully remote

Your mission at Apify:

• We want to adapt to your skills and goals and allow you to fit into our team. If you prefer technical leadership, we will give you more space and autonomy there. If you on the other hand prefer people leadership, we will let you lead there. Or any combination of the two
• You will help with defining and refining our best practices across team activities - code quality standards, testing, deployment, reporting, issue management, communication with users, and so on
• Together with product and project managers, you will play a key role in prioritizing and allocating tasks for both customer-facing projects and internal tooling
• You will closely cooperate with the Tooling, Platform, Product, and Support teams to ensure those teams complement each other well and there is efficient cross-team cooperation
• Lead and inspire the teams of engineers in their day-to-day work excellence, personal development, and career growth
• Become the magnet for new team members, scale our teams, and lead them to success
• You will still write some code to keep up your programming game

Our tech stack:

• Languages: Node.js/TypeScript, a little bit of Python
• Environment: Apify Platform, Docker, local OS for testing
• Libraries: Crawlee and many smaller tools

• Productivity: GitHub, ZenHub, Notion, GSuite
• Process: two-week sprints, code reviews, pair programming, showcases

You'll be a match if:

• You are able to come to the Apify Prague office at least 2 times per month
• You are an experienced software engineer with a solid TypeScript skill
• You have experience as a team lead, tech lead, or engineering manager
• You have the initiative, drive, and ability to generate novel solutions in technical and people management areas
• You like to work with people. You are flexible in accommodating their differences but are able to stand the ground when needed. You are able to earn the trust of your colleagues and stakeholders
• You are good at multitasking and managing cooperation across teams. Your insight often helps to reach a consensus when difficult decisions need to be made
• You are able to make hard decisions. Usually, it is better to make them earlier rather than later
• You don't mind writing. Be it technical specifications, internal guidelines, reports, tutorials, or customer emails
• You have solid written and vocal communication skills in English
